Cocktail de rentrée de la chambre de commerce Franco-Thaïe - Mardi 24 septembre 2019

Good evening everybody,

I am glad to be with you tonight for this welcome back cocktail. We all know the key role played by the FTCC in the business community in Bangkok, as a major actor in the Team France Export. And I want to point out in particular the work done in the committees of the Chamber, for example in the Aerospace sector, or the newly created committee on Hospitality and Wellness. They offer great opportunities for Thai and French companies to meet and discuss possible cooperation. They are also very useful in the diversification of our trade with Thailand.

This trade relies heavily on transport, especially aircrafts, but we should not forget that the other sectors also play an important role. This semester, for example, if you exclude transport equipment, French exports to Thailand are growing by 10%, especially in textiles, pharmaceuticals and agrofood products.

French companies are also investing in Thailand, in very innovative fields, such as solar energy, recycling, bioplastics, aircraft maintenance, and they need a qualified workforce to do so. This is why it is so important to cooperate with our alumni network which, in Thailand can count today on 500 registered members.

For this 2019 edition, up to 40 alumni are participating for the first time, including 16 who took part to the business speed-dating. And joining France Alumni Thailand or becoming a France Alumni partner is indeed an efficient way to share professional networks and relevant information on education, business, job offers or events.

As you know, the Embassy promotes different programs to foster scientific partnerships between our two countries. Ranging from scholarships for Master and PhD students, to fellowships for researchers, these mobility programs have been the backbone of our collaboration with Thailand for nearly 15 years. I therefore encourage the private sector to reinforce their synergies with Thai universities through internships and cooperative education in the framework of these programs.

To conclude, Thailand is investing massively in its infrastructure network and the modernization of its economy. French companies, on their side, are recognized for their expertise in engineering, equipment, operation systems and high tech. I am therefore convinced that the cooperation between the FTCC and the alumni network is a recipe for success.

Thank you and enjoy the rest of the evening.
