Mot de bienvenue lors de l’événement Givenchy à la Résidence de France – le 6 novembre 2018
Dear Philippe Fortunato, CEO of Givenchy,
I am very happy to welcome you all in this historical property, one of the oldest in Bangkok since it was given to the French government by King Mongkut of Thailand more than 160 years ago.
For my predecessors and for myself, it has always been an element of pride to live in such a grand residence. And we have been constantly willing to put it at the service of “French art de vivre”.
I have to say, in this regard, that Givenchy fits in very well in this house. Because Givenchy is not only contemporary fashion. It is now a part of the French heritage and of the French spirit.
As we know, Hubert de Givenchy passed away last March, at 91 years old. He was a major personality of French haute couture as well a gentleman who symbolized Parisian chic and elegance for more than half a century and who exported it to Hollywood. Who could ever forget Audrey Hepburn’s dresses in Sabrina or Breakfast at Tiffany’s ? Thanks to LVMH, his work remains as relevant today as it was then.
In a way, you all are the custodians of this timeless « French flair » and « savoir-faire ». And as a representative of France, I wholeheartedly thank you for that.
And now, I wish you a perfect evening, in the magical décor that Givenchy has designed for you.
